Grown in Elgin, Texas
Mission
Hot Spell Farm is a worker-operated farm that puts people and Earth first. We are making a collective commitment to sustain joy and community through shared land and vegetables.
Our core tenets are: have fun, be hot, grow good food.

About us
Hot Spell is the brainchild of four farmworkers who previously worked together on farms not-our-own. Our intentions and dreams as an equitable, multi-owner farm were created from a shared desire to carve space for non-traditional paths to farming in Central Texas.
Our vision is to increase access to nutritionally dense and southern-adapted produce for the metro Austin area and beyond. In hopes of breaking patterns of profit-driven burnout, our work-centered operation is a hopeful step in creating a participatory model for first-gen workers: you don’t have to do it alone.

Cooperative Farm Management

Few cooperative opportunities for produce growers exist in our home state of Texas. When we started talks about a cooperative farm structure, we knew there would be a big learning curve.
By 2025, we’ll be a registered Co-Op in the state of Texas (we’re an LLC for now).
There are limited, if not, nonexistent models for the type of farm we wanted to build in our community. It’s estimated that only 25 farms across the US are worker-owned or democratically operated. The typical farm operation might be spearheaded by a single owner, or maybe spouses, maybe someone with well-endowed benefactors… We’re none of those.
To make a cooperative vision work, all hands are essential.
On the Farm
Currently, the farm is not open to the public. We also do not host regular volunteer hours because we are primarily a production farm. If you’d like to learn more about how to get involved with local farms in central Texas, please visit our resources page. (coming soon) If volunteer opportunities become available, we’ll share them on our Instagram or newsletter (coming soon). Following us on social media is the best way to stay in-the-know about what’s happening week to week with our produce.
We sell to the Sunset Valley Farmers Market and are open to Wholesale buyers. As of right now, we don’t have plans to take on a CSA structure or subscription box for direct to consumer sales.
If you’d like to learn more about our farm, have requests, or an opportunity to offer us, please visit our contact page and let us know how we can connect with you.
